Accessibility Statement
Last updated: 18 August 2026
1. Our commitment
We want shouthotels.com to be usable by everyone, including people who browse with a screen reader, navigate by keyboard alone, need larger text or higher contrast, or are sensitive to motion. Accessibility is part of how we build pages rather than something added afterwards, and the measures below are built into the template every property page is generated from.
2. The standard we aim for
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.2 at level AA, which is the standard referenced by the UK Equality Act 2010 and by the European standard EN 301 549. We treat this as a target we work towards continuously rather than a box we have ticked. We have not commissioned an independent accessibility audit, and we say so plainly here rather than implying a level of assurance we do not have.
3. What is built into our pages
Every property page we publish includes the following, and we verify them as part of our build process:
- Readable without JavaScript. Page content is visible by default. Animations only ever opt in, so nothing important is hidden if scripts are slow, blocked or disabled.
- A logical heading structure. One page title followed by properly nested section and sub-section headings, so screen reader users can navigate by heading.
- Text alternatives for images. Photographs carry descriptive alt text, and images that are purely decorative are marked as such so screen readers skip them.
- Keyboard operation. Accordions, the photo gallery and dialogs can be opened, moved through and closed from the keyboard, and dialogs return focus where you left it.
- Visible focus. A clear focus outline shows where you are when navigating by keyboard.
- Labelled controls. Interactive elements carry accessible names and state information, so a screen reader announces both what a control is and whether it is open or closed.
- Hidden text where meaning is visual. Where we use a symbol to carry meaning, such as marking a facility as unavailable, we include text that screen readers announce even though it is not shown on screen.
- Reduced motion. If your device is set to reduce motion, our animations are suppressed.
- A declared page language, so screen readers use the correct pronunciation.
4. Accessibility tools on this site
The site also offers an accessibility toolbar that lets you adjust how pages look without changing your device settings. It can increase text size and line spacing, change text alignment, switch to a more readable typeface, apply dark, light or high contrast, remove colour, hide images, pause animations, highlight links, strengthen the focus outline, show a reading mask and list the page structure.
These options are a convenience rather than a substitute for accessible pages. Your browser and operating system offer similar controls that work across every site you visit, and we would encourage you to use whichever you find easier.
5. Known limitations
We would rather tell you where we fall short than leave you to discover it:
- Older pages. Some pages were published before our current template and may not include every measure listed above. We update them as they are revised.
- Third-party content. Booking availability panels, embedded video and embedded maps are supplied by other companies and rendered inside their own frames. We cannot change how accessible they are. Where one of these blocks you, please contact us and we will help you complete what you were trying to do.
- Automated checking has limits. Automated tools catch only a portion of accessibility problems. Real barriers reported by real people are the most valuable feedback we receive.
- Translated pages. Some pages are available in other languages, and translated wording may occasionally be less clear than the English original.
6. Tell us about a problem
If you hit a barrier anywhere on shouthotels.com, please email info@shouthotels.com. It helps if you tell us the page address, what you were trying to do and what got in the way, along with the browser or assistive technology you use. You do not need to identify the technical cause. A plain description of what happened is enough.
We aim to respond within 14 days. Where a fix is straightforward we will make it and tell you when it is live. Where it sits with a third party, or will take longer, we will tell you that honestly and, wherever we can, help you complete your booking enquiry another way.
7. Enforcement
If you are not satisfied with how we have responded, you can raise the matter under the Equality Act 2010. In England, Scotland and Wales the Equality Advisory and Support Service provides free advice at equalityadvisoryservice.com. In Northern Ireland the Equality Commission for Northern Ireland performs a similar role.
8. Keeping this statement current
We review this statement when we make a significant change to how our pages are built, and at least once a year. The date at the top of the page shows the most recent revision. This statement describes shouthotels.com only, and does not cover the booking platforms we link out to, which publish their own accessibility information.
