They also note, consistently, that the interiors are dated and would benefit from a refurb. Cleanliness and facilities are the weakest-reviewed parts of a stay here, and they trace back to the same root cause: the apartments are individually owned within a long-standing building, so soft furnishings and appliances are refreshed on an owner-by-owner basis rather than to a hotel maintenance schedule.
Come for the front-row beach address, the value and the views. Don't come expecting a polished resort. The 1970s Costa Blanca character of the building is part of the deal, and the guests who love it most are the ones who arrive knowing that. For a front-line spot on the Levante seafront, nothing else comes close.

The building is one of the original first-line Levante apartment towers from the 1970s high-rise wave and is one of the rare addresses that puts you within a 15-minute walk of both the Levante seafront and Benidorm's whitewashed Casco Antiguo (Old Town).
Practically, the geography is straightforward. Cross the palm-lined promenade and you are on the sand at roughly 100 yards from the door. Walk south along the promenade for about 12 minutes and you reach the iconic Balcón del Mediterráneo clifftop viewpoint and the Old Town behind it. Walk inland a few minutes onto Avenida Mediterráneo and you hit a row of bars, restaurants and shops including KFC, Garibaldi and Las Jarras. Aqualandia and Mundomar are a five-minute drive inland; Terra Mítica is around 10 minutes by car. Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport is about 60 km / 50 minutes' drive on the AP-7.
This is the busier and more famous end of Benidorm. Levante is the 2-kilometre crescent that gave the city its skyline, with a heavily British and Northern-European crowd that fills the apartments year-round. Couples in particular single out the location as the best part of a stay here.

Exit the airport onto the A-70 ring road, follow signs for Valencia / A-7 / Benidorm, merge onto the AP-7 motorway northbound and take the Benidorm exit (Salida 65A). Follow Avenida del Mediterráneo all the way to the seafront. Edificio Santa Margarita is on the right at #44, on the corner with Avenida Filipinas.

Benidorm and the Costa Blanca
Benidorm has been the engine of Mediterranean mass tourism since the late 1950s, when mayor Pedro Zaragoza pushed through the urban plan that allowed the city's tall, narrow towers, the silhouette that today gives it the densest skyline per capita in Europe. The result is a remarkable urban geography: a wall of slim modern high-rises tucked tightly against two perfect crescent beaches, with a small whitewashed Old Town and clifftop lookout (the Balcón del Mediterráneo) hinged between them. Within ten minutes we can walk from a 40-storey tower with sea-view balconies, down through a tapas alley in the cobbled Old Town, and onto either of two enormous Blue Flag beaches. The Levante / Rincón de Loix end (where Santa Margarita sits) is the bigger, busier and more famous of the two; the Poniente side is quieter and more residential.
The climate is the second reason to come. Benidorm sits in a sun-trap microclimate sheltered by the Sierra Helada and the inland mountains, with mild winters (typical January-February daytime highs around 16-17 °C), warm springs, hot dry summers (peaking around 30 °C in July and August) and long sunny shoulder seasons that explain why so many British retirees return year after year for one- or two-month winter stays. Beyond the beach, the resort packs in Aqualandia, Mundomar, Terra Mítica and Terra Natura, a famous nightlife strip on the British square around Calle Gerona / Calle Mallorca, and a parallel Spanish strip around the Old Town.
Sweet spot for a visit is May to mid-June and September. The sea is warm enough to swim, daytime temperatures sit in the mid-20s °C, prices are off-peak and the beach is wide. July and August are peak season and lively. Late January / early February brings Benidorm Fest, Spain's official Eurovision selection, which fills the city for a long weekend, and the city's patron-saint fiestas (Mare de Déu del Sofratge) run in mid-November.

A very comfortable stay with lovely views. The out-of-hours key pickup at the office around the corner was clearly explained and went smoothly. The apartment was larger than we expected, the 15th-floor views over the beach and town were superb, and the pool was clean with plenty of sun loungers. Two bathrooms and four fast lifts on our floor made it easy.
