That rename is also why so much of what is written about this place is out of date. You will find listings claiming six rooms, or eleven, or eighteen; the property says ten. It is liveliest at the weekend when the music starts, and it is still the most reliable Bahamian meal on New Providence.

The Queen's Staircase, downtown Nassau

A 20-minute drive east, downtown Nassau holds the pastel colonial core, the Straw Market and the Queen's Staircase: 66 steps cut by hand through solid limestone, running up a green gorge to Fort Fincastle. Go on a day with no cruise ships in and it is a completely different, far pleasanter city.

Clifton Heritage National Park

A 15 to 20 minute drive west along the coast, Clifton Heritage National Park runs Lucayan and Loyalist ruins down to a shoreline of white sand and reef. Offshore lies the Ocean Atlas sculpture, a submerged figure holding up the surface of the sea, which makes this the best snorkel on the island after the reef across the road from your room.

The western end of New Providence is where the water is clearest and the reef is closest to the sand, and where you eat at places like Aquafire, nine minutes' walk along the road, or Studio Cafe in the old Compass Point recording studios where Bob Marley and the Rolling Stones once worked. Nirvana Beach Bar, five minutes away, is the local sunset spot and the main gate onto Love Beach.
When you want the rest of it, the jitney or a taxi takes you east: Cable Beach and Baha Mar at about six miles, the Arawak Cay fish fry at six and a half, and downtown Nassau with its Straw Market and Queen's Staircase at eight. West instead of east gets you Clifton Heritage National Park at about seven miles, with Loyalist ruins above water and the Ocean Atlas sculpture below it.
On timing: peak season runs from mid-December to mid-April, dry and warm and busy. Hurricane season is officially the first of June to the end of November, with activity peaking around the second week of September. Late April, May and November are the value months. And if you can be here on Boxing Day or New Year's Day, Junkanoo takes over Bay Street from about one in the morning.
