Nina and Jamie took it on, refurbished it room by room and reopened it as Britmead Guesthouse: adults only, spotless, and quiet in a way the old house never quite was.

There are also other pubs and hotels around the UK trading as The York, so when searching add Weston-super-Mare or St Margaret's Terrace to be sure of the right property. It is independently run by THE YORK HOTEL (WSM) LIMITED and is not part of a chain.

For years the building traded as the Comfort Hotel Great Yarmouth under a Choice Hotels franchise, and before that as the Regency Dolphin, so plenty of travel listings and map entries still file it under the old branding. Same white pile on Albert Square, same iron balconies, same red carpet running out to the pavement. If you stayed here years ago and remember something different over the entrance, you are in the right place.

Your car goes on the drive at no charge, which is a rare thing this close to Dublin. Breakfast is laid on a lace cloth in the front room under a painting of a sunflower field, and it is the part of the stay people write about first. And the two things most visitors are in Tallaght for sit within a walk: the stadium about ten minutes away, The Square and the tram terminus around sixteen.
