An octagonal pond with lily pads in a rose garden, and a stone building beyond the hedge.

The house and the garden

The guest house is a stone building with steep gables and leaded windows, set behind a hedge and a black gate. Outside, a formal pond sits among roses, and a leaded window looks down a lawn towards vegetable beds and a greenhouse. Guests often mention the grounds before they mention the room.

A double bed with white linen, a grey throw and a dark headboard in a cream bedroom.

Upstairs, and no lift

The doubles shown here have a dark headboard, white linen and a desk by the window. The single has one bed, a desk and a kettle. Both types have a shower. The community says the bed-and-breakfast rooms are upstairs and there is no lift. The Hermitage is a separate single-level retreat, not one of these rooms.

Tables set with white plates, teapots and glasses beside a window onto the garden.

A simple breakfast, then a quiet evening

Tables are laid with plates, teapots and a tray of tea and coffee. Guests talk about cereal, bread, eggs, yoghurt and juice, and about the place growing quiet in the evening. One guest was asked to arrive before the community’s silence. If your train is late, check the latest arrival with the Guest Office rather than assuming a hotel desk is staffed all night.

A good fit for

  • A guest who wants a quiet night in monastery grounds
  • Someone happy with a simple en-suite room and breakfast
  • A traveller who can manage stairs

Worth knowing

  • There is no lift to the bed-and-breakfast rooms
  • The community allows under-18s with an adult; the booking site has said children are not allowed
  • Pets are not accepted. Assistance dogs are the exception
  • Ask about the latest arrival. One guest was told to be there before 8pm, because the house goes quiet at 8.30
  • Breakfast hours were not on the current terms
  • Use the upper-gate directions. Do not guess the guest door from a map

Beyond the essentials

Interesting points about Mirfield Monastery B&B

The Guest Office, not a named host

The stay is run by the Community of the Resurrection at the House of the Resurrection. There is no personal host name to introduce. Questions about access, arrival and meals go to the Guest Office on 01924 483346 or guests@mirfield.org.uk. The community’s general line is a different number.

Two room types on the booking site, eight rooms in the house

The community’s own page describes eight en-suite rooms: six doubles and two singles. The booking site currently sells a double and a single. The photos show those two layouts. They do not prove that every room in the house looks the same, or that all eight are free on a given night.

The church listing is not this guest house

Historic England’s Grade II entry for the Church of the College of the Resurrection is a different building. Do not read it as a listing of the bed-and-breakfast annexe. The community also has a separate Hermitage for a self-catered or full-board retreat.

Verdict

Is Mirfield Monastery B&B right for you?

Stay if you want a plain, peaceful room in the monastery grounds and you can use the stairs. Look elsewhere if you need a lift, a late arrival you have not checked, or a clear yes for a child.

Location

Get to know the neighbourhood

The guest house is at the House of the Resurrection on Stocks Bank Road, Mirfield, WF14 0BN. Mirfield station is the rail stop for the town. The walk between the station and the monastery is uphill, and one guest called the return a hard trek.

A marked car park in front of the stone guest house.

By car

Aim for Stocks Bank Road and the upper gate, almost opposite Kitson Hill Road. Follow the community’s gate instruction rather than guessing the guest door on a map.

By train

Mirfield station has direct trains towards Leeds and Manchester. From the station to the monastery is a walk with a hill. If stairs or the hill would be a problem, ask the Guest Office before you rely on walking it.

Parking
The community says to use the gate nearest the top of Stocks Bank Road, almost opposite Kitson Hill Road.
Station
Mirfield station is on Station Road. Lifts were installed in 2026, but National Rail still says there are none. Check on the day if you need a lift.

The area

Mirfield, beyond the grounds

The town guide is the place for the station, the canal path and where to eat. This house is the monastery base, not the station base. Upper Hopton is a greener edge of the town and is a better idea with a car. Check St Mary’s opening times before a visit. They are not listed here.

Check-in and check-out

The community’s current terms say check-in is from 2pm and check-out is by 10am. The booking capture has also disagreed with itself about a latest arrival of 8.15pm or 8.30pm. One guest was asked to arrive before 8pm because the community’s silence starts at 8.30. Ask the Guest Office which rule applies to your night.

Children

The community says anyone under 18 must be booked with an adult. The booking site has said children are not allowed. Those two accounts conflict, so do not assume a child can stay. Ask before you book.

Pets, smoking and parking

Pets are not accepted. Assistance dogs are the exception the community states. Smoking is not allowed in the rooms. Parking is free at the upper gate. Cancellation terms stay on the booking site and were not copied here, so read them before you pay.

Stairs

The bed-and-breakfast rooms are upstairs and there is no lift. If stairs would stop you reaching the room, ask the Guest Office. The Hermitage is a different, single-level retreat and is not one of these rooms.
