The rest of Terrebonne is worth the short drive too. Vieux-Terrebonne and the Île-des-Moulins historic site, a restored mill complex on the Rivière des Mille-Îles classified as a historic site in 1973, are ten to twelve minutes away, with restaurants, a theatre and pontoon-boat tours. Downtown Montréal is a car trip rather than a commute.
What the Listings Get Wrong
Three corrections, all of which will save somebody a wasted expectation. First, there is no restaurant here and no breakfast. Several listings still show an on-site American restaurant, because the Le Meunier restaurant next door used to trade at 3550 Chemin Gascon. It has closed permanently and the unit is now Oshika Sushi, an independent sushi restaurant with no connection to the motel.
Second, this is a motel and not a hotel, whatever the two-star hotel label says. Single storey, ground-floor units, private entrances, park at your door. That is a better description of what you are getting, and for a family with kit to carry it is a better proposition than a hotel corridor.

Terrebonne is an off-island suburb on Montréal's north shore, in the Lanaudière region, and at just under 120,000 people in the 2021 census it is Québec's tenth-largest city. The motel sits in its northern Lachenaie corridor on Chemin Gascon, beside exit 35 of Autoroute 640 and close to the A25. This is a built-for-drivers stretch of road, and the property makes no pretence otherwise.
The reason most guests are here is three kilometres away: La Cité du Sport de Terrebonne, five minutes by car or a ride on the exo 27 bus. Vieux-Terrebonne, the heritage quarter on the Rivière des Mille-Îles, is six kilometres and ten to twelve minutes, with the Île-des-Moulins mill complex, the Théâtre du Vieux-Terrebonne and a row of riverside restaurants.
Further afield by car: the Cosmodôme in Laval at about twenty-four kilometres, the Centre de la Nature at sixteen, and the Parc de la Rivière-des-Mille-Îles at eighteen. A 20-minute drive south-west takes you to the protected stretch of the Rivière des Mille-Îles at Laval, where you can rent a canoe or a kayak and paddle out between wooded islands. The same river runs past Vieux-Terrebonne, so you can see it in ten minutes and paddle it in twenty.

Downtown Montréal
35 min drive
A 35-minute drive south, once you are over the bridges, brings you to Old Montréal and the Notre-Dame Basilica, whose blue and gold vault is the most startling interior in the country. Staying on the north shore means paying Terrebonne prices and driving in, which for a family is a very different arithmetic from a downtown hotel.

A car is far more practical.
Terrebonne and the North Shore
Terrebonne is not a tourist town and does not try to be. It is a fast-growing suburb of a hundred and twenty thousand people on the north shore, with a genuinely handsome heritage quarter at one end and a long commercial corridor at the other. You are staying at the commercial end, five minutes from the sports complex and a slip road from the motorway.
The part worth your evening is Vieux-Terrebonne, ten minutes west: a riverside street of restaurants and boutiques, the Théâtre du Vieux-Terrebonne with a full season of concerts and comedy, and the Île-des-Moulins beside it, where five restored mill buildings sit on the water and a bakery still works. Demand across Terrebonne peaks in April and from June to July, driven by tournaments and the Vieux-Terrebonne festival season, and rates are lowest in January.
Montréal is a drive rather than a hop, and that is the trade you are making. If you want the city on your doorstep, stay in the city. If you want a cheap ground-floor room with your car outside and a rink five minutes away, this is the right end of the island.
