You do not check in here so much as let yourself in. The White Brick Inn is a single self-contained suite on the lower ground floor of a private house, with its own entrance off the garden, and once the door closes the 600 square feet are yours alone: a bedroom with a queen bed, a sitting room, a proper kitchen and your own bathroom. No lobby, no corridor, no neighbours through the wall.
John and Mike live upstairs and host it themselves, which is why guests keep writing about lifts from the railway platform and a light already on when they arrive. It is the right call for two adults who want privacy and quiet with someone nearby who actually knows the town. It is the wrong call if you need a front desk, a restaurant or anyone to make the bed halfway through the week.
Know the shape of it before you book. The suite is licensed for two people and that number does not bend for a baby or a toddler, there are no cots and no extra beds, and the sofa is a sofa rather than a spare bed. If there are three of you, this is not the place, however small the third one is.
Cook Your Own, Because You Will Want To
The kitchen is the reason people book this suite for four nights instead of one. It is a full domestic kitchen with hardwood underfoot, a run of maple units and a dining table you can actually sit at, not a kettle on a shelf. Jasper is still rebuilding its restaurant scene after the 2024 wildfire, tables go quickly in July and August, and being able to shop once and eat in turns that from a nuisance into a free evening.
The sitting room next to it has a large flat screen with satellite channels, a sofa and enough floor to spread a map across. Guests who arrive off a long drive down the Icefields Parkway tend to describe the same evening: groceries in, boots off, feet up. Bear's Paw Bakery is a short walk toward the main street if you would rather someone else did breakfast, and there is no breakfast served here at all.
A 1942 Brick House on a Quiet Street
Look up as you come through the gate. Almost everything in the townsite is timber, and this is one of only a handful of brick houses in Jasper, put up in 1942 with a steep slate-grey roof, a white picket fence and hanging baskets of petunias that guests photograph without being asked to. The name is not a flourish. It is a description.
Geikie Street is residential and it stays quiet after dark, which is the point. Two blocks away Connaught Drive has the shops, the restaurants, the visitor centre and the railway platform, and a few minutes beyond that the valley opens into lakes, canyons and the Icefields Parkway. You get the middle of town without sleeping in the middle of town, and elk wander the verges at dusk like it is nothing.

- One listing files it as a hotel and Google files it as a bed and breakfast. It is neither, and the owner has said so publicly: asked on the listing's question board in January 2023 why no breakfast appeared anywhere, he replied that the B&B label had been put on the page in error. Nothing is served here
- The licence caps the suite at two people regardless of age. The owner has spelled this out twice in writing: it can be two adults, or one adult and one child, and never a third person of any age
- Payment is taken in cash or travellers' cheques on arrival. A card number is collected purely to guarantee the booking, which catches out guests who arrive with nothing but plastic

The White Brick Inn sits at 201 Geikie Street, two blocks back from Connaught Drive in the grid of the Jasper townsite. The listing measures 750 yards to the centre of town and 900 yards to the railway platform, which in practice means under ten minutes on foot to either, on flat pavement, in a town you can cross end to end in about half an hour. That is the whole argument for staying here rather than out at the lakes.
You are inside Jasper National Park, and that carries one rule people miss: everyone in the park needs a Parks Canada pass, and sleeping in the townsite does not exempt you. Buy it online, at the park gates, or at the information centre on Connaught Drive. For 2026 the Canada Strong Pass makes admission free from 19 June to 7 September, with normal fees either side of that window.
There is no airport at Jasper. Most people arrive by road on Highway 16 from Edmonton, or down the Icefields Parkway from Lake Louise, and a good number come in on the railway instead, which stops a ten-minute walk from the front door. Two things to plan around in 2026: Maligne Canyon is closed for the whole season and the road up to Mount Edith Cavell is closed until further notice, both for wildfire rehabilitation. Maligne Lake at the far end of the same road is open as normal.

Jasper SkyTram
15 min drive
About 8 km from the door, a 15-minute drive, the SkyTram is the fastest way to get properly above the valley: seven minutes in a cabin to 2,263 metres on Whistlers Mountain, then a steep walk to the true summit if your legs are willing. On a clear day the view runs down six mountain ranges and picks out the townsite as a small grid far below. It was built in 1964 and runs from mid-April to late October, so it is out of the picture in deep winter.

Athabasca Falls
30 min drive
About 30 km south on Highway 93, a 30-minute drive, Athabasca Falls is short rather than tall and all the more violent for it: the whole river squeezed through a quartzite slot and dropped 23 metres, loud enough that you hear it from the car park. Walkways and a former channel let you look into the gorge from several angles, and the round trip takes well under an hour. It reopened in October 2024 and is open through 2026, which makes it one of the safest bets on the southern run.

Maligne Lake & Spirit Island
50 min drive
About 44 km southeast, a 50-minute drive along Maligne Lake Road, Maligne Lake is the one everybody has already seen without knowing it: Spirit Island, the small stand of firs on a shingle spit, is among the most photographed views in Canada and can only be reached by boat. The cruise runs from late May to mid-October and is ticketed. Medicine Lake, which drains away every autumn through the rock beneath it, sits on the same road. Note that Maligne Canyon, further down the valley, is closed for the whole of the 2026 season.

- From Jasper railway station: About 900 yards and ten minutes on foot. Come out of the station onto Connaught Drive, walk southwest past the shops, then turn up onto Geikie Street. Hosts have been known to collect guests arriving on a late train, so tell them your arrival time.
- From Edmonton: Roughly 365 km west on Highway 16, the Yellowhead, and about four hours with a stop. Edmonton International is the nearest airport with car hire. SunDog runs a daily year-round shuttle from the airport, the mall and downtown if you would rather not drive.
- From Banff and Lake Louise: The Icefields Parkway, Highway 93, is 232 km from Lake Louise and takes three to three and a half hours without stopping, though nobody manages that. Fill up before you set off: the only fuel mid-route shuts in winter, and there is no phone signal for long stretches.
- Arriving by car: Free private parking sits at the house, so you can leave the car and walk into town rather than paying for the core between May and October. Set the satnav to 201 Geikie Street, T0E 1E0, and message your arrival time the day before.
Jasper, From the Doorstep
Jasper is a railway town of a few thousand people sitting inside the largest national park in the Canadian Rockies, and it is quieter, wilder and further from anywhere than its famous neighbour to the south. Elk graze the verges, the night sky is dark enough to have its own October festival, and the valley beyond the last street holds glacier-fed lakes, canyons and the Columbia Icefield. In July 2024 a wildfire reached the townsite and destroyed roughly a third of its buildings. Two years on the town is open, busy again and visibly rebuilding, and a few well-known sights are still shut while the ground is made safe.

Is The White Brick Inn worth it?
Yes, if there are two of you, you want your own front door and kitchen rather than a room on a corridor, and you would rather walk into Jasper than pay to park in it. The suite is immaculate, quiet and better than its own photographs. Look elsewhere if you are travelling with a child of any age, if you need a bath rather than a shower, or if you want breakfast, a front desk and someone to tidy up while you are out.

The praise is unusually consistent and it lands on the same four things every time: how spotless the suite is, how comfortable the bed is, the shower, and how little walking it takes to reach the middle of town. Guests who arrive after dark keep mentioning that the lighting and music were already on. The only recurring gripes are for things that were never there in the first place, a washing machine and a streaming subscription, rather than anything that went wrong.
